The Royal Society of Architects in Wales/ Cymdeithas Frenhinol Penseiri yng Nghymru (RSAW) is constituted as the regional organisation of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in Wales.

Our mission is to promote architecture and the work of architects to potential clients, policy makers and the general public. The RSAW is governed by a council drawn from the whole membership working within a wider framework set by the RIBA.

 

Conference 2008: Green Wales - creating a sustainable European nation

The RSAW conference and evening dinner will be on Thursday 20 November at St David's Hotel and Spa, Cardiff Bay. With a keynote address from Jane Davidson, AM for Environment, Sustainability and Housing, other speakers include Professor Phil Jones (Head of the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University), Jeff Perren (Head of Sustainable Development, Welsh Assembly Government), Joost Schrijnen (Head of Planning for the South West Dutch Delta) and Mark Hallett (Development Director, Igloo Regeneration Partnership).

Blaenavon World Heritage Centre

The RSAW is pleased to announce that Blaenavon World Heritage Centre by Purcell Miller Tritton has won an RIBA Award 2008 |in Wales. The announcement was highlighted on the BBC website|

 

 

 

 

Ruth Reed, President of the RSAW 2003-2005, has been elected the next President of the RIBA. Ruth will also be the first female President of the RIBA in its 174 year history. More details on the announcement can be found here|.

 

Local activities are co-ordinated by four branches|, while all-Wales activities are administered by a small team of full-time staff based in Cardiff at the Welsh School of Architecture.
 

The activities of the RSAW include:

  • liaison with the Welsh Assembly Government, local authorities, public agencies and the voluntary sector
  • the Clients Service (free information to the public on selecting and working with architects)
  • annual RIBA Awards programme in Wales
  • annual Conference and Spring School (see above for details of the conference)
  • publication of Touchstone - the magazine for architecture in Wales
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) - delivered through the RSAW office and local branches
